The Gospel Harmony Boys, 1957

Harold Lane, Lead; Asa Legrand, Tenor; Homer Fry, Baritone; Gray Johnson, Bass; John Bruce, pianist

The Gospel Harmony Boys of Huntington, West Virginia will soon invade the South on a series of recordings to be distributed by Stateswood. This fine organization, probably the most outstanding quartet in the central states, is piloted by Harold Lane, second tenor. Harold is a graduate of Marshall College, with a master's degree in music. His musical arrangements are well known to such Southern quartets as the Statesmen, Jake Hess, Homeland Harmony, and others.

Asa LeGrand is first tenor; Homer Fry, baritone; Gray Johnson, bass; and Johnny Bruce, pianist. All are residents of Huntington. The group has been singing for a number of years. Their popularity is attested by the fact that the boys are booked far into next year for personal appearances. They have appeared on the Dave Garroway Show, have two weekly radio programs on WHTN and WSAZ, and a weekly television show on WSAZ-TV.

Probably their most outstanding asset, other than their actual singing ability, their modern arrangements, and their dynamic force of interpretation, is the fact that they have an unlimited supply of new song material made available to them by composers who write especially for their quartet. Many of the new compositions are included on their new recordings to be released by Stateswood.

Both Mr. Lane and Mr. Bruce are teachers at the West Virginia Academy of Music in Huntington. Mr. Lane is also an instructor of instrumental music in the West Virginia school system, and is Dean of Music at West Virginia Academy of Music.

Arrangements are being made at this time for the personal appearance of this fine group to appear in the South. At one time, Mr. Lane was a member of the Homeland Harmony Quartet.
