Asbury Adkins joins GHB

Asbury Adkins joins the Boys on an old favorite.

During each Labor Day weekend, the Stoutsville Church Camp in Stoutsville, OH conducts a four-day camp with extraordinary ministers speaking during the morning sessions and featuring some of the very best in gospel music during the other services.  The Gospel Harmony Boys have been part of this traditional event since1974, and they were invited to appear this year on Sunday afternoon.  The “Boys” were pleased to find Asbury Adkins, one of the groups most loved inactive members, in the audience and invited him to join them in his signature song, “Rock of Ages, Hide Thou Me”.  The performance was closely followed by a standing ovation during which the Stoutsville campers showed their appreciation of Asbury and his inspiring contribution to the program.

In a very special event, Calvin treated the audience to a hilarious piano rendition

of “Heaven’s Jubilee” during the offering.  Several pauses and bows were taken during the short three-minute performance, and the audience was left holding their sides with laughter.  Folks have often asked if Calvin is really real.  We assure you he really is: we’re just not sure what he really is.

Calvin hams it up at the piano, demonstrating why he sings bass.

The Boys also found long-time GHB friend, Kay Harker, in the crowd of nearly 500 attendees.  Kay is one of only two “Honorary” GHB members having been inducted in 1985.  It is always a pleasure to find Kay’s wonderful smile in an audience.

Also,if you will check out the Stoutsville picture gallery, you will note that Scott’s son, Laden, traveled with us during the Labor Day holiday and was a great help at the product table.  He is a terrific young man of nine years and he and his dad share a marvelous bond.
