The Gospel Harmony Boys
Harold Lane Inducted to SGMHOF
November, 2009
Harold presented the plaque by SMGA board member, Bob Brumley
The Gospel Music Hall of Fame induction ceremony has been conducted, and we are ecstatic that our founder, Harold Lane has been included. His 2009 classmates include Neil Enloe of the famous Couriers, Ed Hill of the Prophets and Stamps Quartet, Don Light, who initiated gospel music’s first talent agency, Bill Lyles of the Swanee River Boys and the Blackwood Brothers, Elizabeth Mull of gospel radio fame, Billy Todd of the Florida Boys and Charlie Waller, founder of the Grand Ol Gospel Convention, and Executive Director of the Southern Gospel Music Association. Each of these are extremely worthy nominees, and it is exciting to see Harold Lane among them.
We were also pleased that Harold’s daughter, Judy Huff, brought “H” to Dollywood for the ceremony. Harold has contracted Parkinson’s in recent years, and we’d like to express our thanks to Judy for helping her Dad be there for the induction.
The Harmony Boys perform Lane's "I'm Standing On The Solid Rock" at induction ceremony
As you already know, Harold is one of the finest writers in gospel music, and The Gospel Harmony Boys had the privilege of singing one of his greatest songs, “I’m Standing on the Solid Rock” during the induction ceremony. One of the highlights of the evening was when Harold received a standing ovation as he performed the second verse of the song on video. The video cut was from our 2000 reunion in Stoutsville, OH, and you can view it here. Photos from this great event can be viewed here.
This is Harold's third nomination to the Hall of Fame, and we’d like to thank the selection committee and members of the SGMA for their support of Harold. In order to get a comprehensive view of Harold’s contributions to Southern Gospel music, information previously posted on this website is included again here for your review.
A tip of the GHB hat goes to all of you who helped bring Harold’s merit to the attention of the SGMA but especially to Dean Adkins whose help was invaluable. Photos from the induction service are posted in the gallery.
